What is Lira Clinical ICE Clarifying Scrub?
ICE Clarifying Scrub is a cleansing and exfoliating treatment from the ICE line by Lira Clinical. The main active ingredient is 5% benzoyl peroxide, a well-researched ingredient for the treatment of acne.
The difference compared to a regular facial scrub is that this product does not only exfoliate the skin surface. During cleansing, the skin also comes into contact with benzoyl peroxide, which is particularly beneficial for skin that suffers from active and inflamed pimples in addition to clogged pores.
For which skin type is ICE Clarifying Scrub suitable?
- Oily and acne-prone skin

My advice as a skin therapist: I find this scrub particularly interesting when oily, somewhat thick, or clogged skin is combined with active acne. For very dry, sensitive, or irritated skin, I would not automatically choose a scrub.
OPERATION
How does ICE Clarifying Scrub work for acne and clogged pores?
In acne, multiple processes play a role simultaneously. Skin cells and sebum can accumulate around the opening of the sebaceous follicle. In addition, Cutibacterium acnes contribute to the development and maintenance of inflammation.
ICE Clarifying Scrub combines exfoliation and cleansing with 5% benzoyl peroxide, thereby targeting both the skin surface and active acne.
5% benzoyl peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide has an antimicrobial effect against Cutibacterium acnes and is among the most commonly used active ingredients for inflamed acne.
In addition, benzoyl peroxide has a mild keratolytic effect. As a result, it can also help with the accumulation of skin cells around the sebaceous follicle.
Why benzoyl peroxide in a rinse-off product?
ICE Clarifying Scrub is different from ICE Clarifying Treatment. The Treatment remains on the skin, whereas the Clarifying Scrub is rinsed off after approximately one minute.
That makes the scrub interesting if you want to incorporate benzoyl peroxide into the cleansing and exfoliation step of your routine, rather than exclusively as a leave-on treatment.
Moreover, at 5% benzoyl peroxide, it has been demonstrated that the ingredient can be antimicrobially active relatively quickly. This makes this concentration also suitable for use in a rinse-off formulation.
Exfoliate without scrubbing hard
Additionally, the product has an exfoliating effect that helps to loosen excess superficial skin cells and leave the skin feeling smoother.
However, scrubbing harder is not better for acne. Too much mechanical friction can actually make inflamed skin more irritated. Therefore, massage the product gently over wet skin and let the formula do the work.
What makes the formula special?
The combination is the interesting part here: A proven acne-active ingredient is combined with a much more comprehensive skincare formula.
In addition to benzoyl peroxide, ICE Clarifying Scrub contains, among other things, glycerin, allantoin, aloe vera, bromelain, ferment extracts, and various botanical extracts.
These ingredients do not replace the action of benzoyl peroxide, but ensure that the formulation does not revolve exclusively around powerful degreasing and exfoliating.
Bromelain
Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme that can be derived from pineapple. Such enzymes can help break down protein compounds in superficial skin flakes and are therefore used in exfoliating skincare.
In ICE Clarifying Scrub, it complements the cleansing and exfoliating action of the overall formula.
Allantoin, aloe vera and glycerin
Glycerin helps attract and retain water. Allantoin and aloe vera are widely used for their skin-soothing properties.
These are useful additions to a product containing benzoyl peroxide, because active acne products can also make the skin drier or more sensitive.
PSC and botanical extracts
The formula contains, among other things, extracts from cell cultures of echinacea and lilac. Lira Clinical uses the term PSC, or plant stem cells, for this.

USAGE
How do you use Lira Clinical ICE Clarifying Scrub?
- Moisten the skin with lukewarm water.
- Apply a small amount of ICE Clarifying Scrub.
- Gently massage the product into the skin for about one minute.
- Avoid the skin around the eyes.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Then apply your suitable serum or nourishing cream.
- Always use appropriate sun protection during the day.
How often do you use ICE Clarifying Scrub?
Lira Clinical recommends using the Clarifying Scrub up to approximately three times a week for problem skin.
The manufacturer also states that the product can be applied temporarily daily to areas with inflamed acne. However, how often your skin tolerates the product well depends on your skin condition and the other active products you use.
Do not scrub hard
Acne-prone skin does not need to be scrubbed vigorously to become clean. Massage gently and use plenty of water. Extra pressure primarily increases the mechanical stress on the skin and is not necessary for the benzoyl peroxide to work.
Clarifying Scrub or Clarifying Treatment?
The two products both contain 5% benzoyl peroxide, but have a different function.
ICE Clarifying Scrub is a rinse-off cleansing and exfoliating step. ICE Clarifying Treatment is a leave-on product that remains on the skin after application.
Which of the two suits you best depends on the type of acne, the sensitivity of your skin, and the rest of your routine. They do not automatically need to be used at the same time.
For acne on the back and chest
The scrub can also be practical for impurities on larger areas such as the back and chest. A rinse-off benzoyl peroxide product is often easier to incorporate into a shower or cleansing routine on these areas than a product that needs to be left on completely.
Be careful with colored textiles
Benzoyl peroxide can bleach textiles. Therefore, rinse the product thoroughly and take colored towels, clothing, and bedding into account.
