Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL: one technology, different treatments
With the Lumenis M22 I treat various skin problems with intense pulsed light (IPL). Think of visible blood vessels, redness, pigment spots, unwanted hair growth and certain forms of acne. IPL can also be used for complaints associated with blocked meibomian glands in specific cases be an additional treatment. Which application is suitable depends on your skin, the indication and the selected filter. Therefore, I assess in advance exactly what we want to cover.
Redness, blood vessels and pigment spots
IPL can be used for suitable superficial veins, couperose, diffuse redness and certain symptoms of rosacea. The light becomes absorbed by hemoglobin, among others. The released heat can damage vascular structures, after which the body gradually clears them away.
For certain superficial pigment spots and sun damage, IPL can could also be a possibility. The light is then absorbed by melanin. Treated pigment spots may initially become darker. and then gradually fade.
Not every type of redness or pigmentation is suitable for IPL. The skin type, pigment sensitivity, and indication determine which filter and which settings I choose.
IPL hair removal and ingrown hairs
With IPL hair reduction, light is absorbed by pigment in the hairs. The heat can damage hair follicles in the appropriate growth phase, causing hair growth to decrease after multiple treatments.
IPL can also be interesting when shaving repeatedly causes ingrown hairs and inflamed hair follicles. The Suitability depends on hair and skin color, among other things. For fine, light, or stray hairs, electric epilation is possible. sometimes be a more suitable alternative.
Acne, dry eyes and meibomian glands
Acne and inflammation
In certain forms of inflammatory acne, IPL can be a supplementary are deployed. I look at the active inflammation, the skin type and the sensitivity of the skin. Where necessary, I combine IPL with cleansing, suitable peels and targeted skin care.

Dry eyes and clogged meibomian glands
Burning or watery eyes can be associated with a disturbed tear film and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). IPL can be an additional treatment for suitable complaints. In addition, the skin around the eyes is treated according to a specific protocol and with suitable eye protection, not the eyeball itself. Skin therapy does not replace ophthalmological care.
